How to create an email QR code

An email QR code uses the mailto standard: scanning it opens a new email addressed to you, optionally with the subject and body already written. It removes the friction of someone copying your address by hand — and the typos that come with it.

  1. Enter the recipient address that emails should go to.
  2. Add a subject (optional) so you can filter or route the enquiry.
  3. Add a starter message (optional) to prompt the sender.
  4. Style and download as PNG, SVG or JPEG for your poster, flyer or packaging.

Where email QR codes are useful

Support pages and product packaging use them so customers can raise an issue without hunting for an address. Trade-show stands and posters use a pre-filled subject to keep enquiries organised. Landlords, tradespeople and small services print one so a quick question is one scan away.

Email QR code FAQ

What happens when someone scans an email QR code?

Their phone opens its default email app with a new message already addressed to you. If you added a subject or message, those are pre-filled too — they just tap send or add their own words first.

Can I pre-fill the subject and body?

Yes. Both are optional. A pre-filled subject helps you sort incoming mail (for example 'Menu enquiry'), and a starter message can prompt people with what to include.

Does it work on every phone?

It uses the standard mailto format that iPhone and Android both understand, opening whichever email app is set as default. If someone has no email app configured, nothing opens — but that is rare.

Will my email address be visible?

The address is encoded in the code, so a scanner app may display it before opening. That is normal — the same as printing it on a poster.

Does the code expire?

No. It is a static code with your details baked in, free forever with no account. Change your address later and you simply make a new one.
